Creating a Positive Tryout Experience
We understand that tryouts can be an uncomfortable and stressful experience for young athletes. At TOR Futbol Academy, we strive to provide a different kind of experience—one that minimizes pressure and focuses on growth. We believe that evaluating young athletes is challenging because their abilities and development happen at different rates. While coaches look for skill, they also highly value attitude, teamwork, and effort. Encourage your child to stay positive, listen to instructions, and give their best effort. A good attitude can make a strong impression and help them develop as a player and teammate.
1. Understand the Tryout Process
Each club or team may have a slightly different tryout process. Be sure to check the website or contact the coach for details such as tryout dates, locations, requirements, and expectations. Some teams may hold multiple sessions, while others may make selections after a single evaluation.
2. Arrive Prepared
Ensure your child arrives on time, dressed appropriately with shin guards, cleats or indoors, and weather-appropriate gear. Bring water, and make sure they have eaten a light, energy-boosting meal before the session.
3. Emphasize Effort and Attitude
Coaches are looking for skill, but we also value attitude, teamwork, and effort. Encourage your child to stay positive, listen to instructions, and give their best effort. A good attitude can make a strong impression.
4. Know the Commitment Level
Before tryouts, understand the level of commitment the team requires. Some teams have rigorous practice schedules, frequent travel, and additional financial obligations. Make sure the team is a good fit for your family’s schedule and budget.
5. Support Without Pressure
Parents should be supportive but avoid adding pressure. Let your child enjoy the experience and focus on doing their best rather than just making the team. THEY ARE KIDS!
6. Communication and Next Steps
Find out how and when the team will communicate results. If your child makes the team, understand the registration process, fees, and next steps. If they don’t, encourage them to keep practicing.
Tryout Information & Key Factors
IMPORTANT NOTE** We do not require a 24 hour rule after tryouts or once being offered a spot on one of our teams. Our priority is what is best for your athlete. We want you to see the value we have to offer and feel that you have made the best decision possible for your child.
